My Personal Research Journey

As a child, I can recall enjoying and being passionate about working with young children. The innocence on their faces and the love in their hearts has always drawn me to this age group. I have always known that many aspects in a child’s life will affect their development. However, I have recently realized that providing high quality education and care is vital in order to ensure that all children are given an equal chance to succeed in school and in their lives. I strongly believe that lessons begin at home and there is a need for parents to become more involved in their children’s learning and development. Adequate and excellent teaching is needed for children to stay ahead to ensure that they are reaching their full potential.

While providing high quality education and care, I also want to discover more information in order to implement skills and to provide children with tools to survive and maneuver outside the classroom. Education is now focused on academics alone; however, I have gained great insight on the importance of looking at a child holistically instead of having a side track vision on only academics.
As educators, we should not sacrifice the things that children need by solely focusing on academics. Children need tools to develop social skills so that they will grow to understand how to cope in life as well.
Please feel free to offer any advice or knowledge about this issue. I would appreciate any insight that may be beneficial in my process of completing research on this topic.

I also think that is very important for the child to develop in all areas, not only in academicas as you mentioned. I agree with the importance of helping the child developing in all areas, helping them to have a successful life, not only at school, at home, in the community, how relate with others, etc. Social skills is very important and researching about tools to help children in the process is absolutely worth it!

    1. I agree. I work with many children who are lacking the ability to make friends, ask for help, feeling confident and/or valuable, etc. Children need to know their worth and to like who they are, because without children knowing themselves and identifying those quatlities may lead to negatvie effects on their future.

  2. Sha-Kevia,

I also remember as a child when I would play with my younger cousins how I said all I want to do is work with kids for the rest of my life. I agree with you that it is important for children to be able to survive and continue to use the information that we as educators provide for them once they are out of our care.

    Thank you for sharing

    1. lessons that children learn in the early stages of development are important because this stage is the time to instill vital lessons in children so they may use those skills to direct them throughout their life. Working with children is a process, not a event. It takes time and hard work to mode children into being the best they can be. This is why I believe early childhood quality care and education should not be overlooked or skipped before the child enters into the educational system.

  3. Sha-Kevia,
I can not agree more! As early childhood educators we need to focus on the whole child. Social emotional skills are often not viewed as important as academics when it comes to lifelong success, but how can a person be successful without those types of skills? Best of luck in your research. I am also reasearching quality, but I am considering it from the parent's perspective and how it influences their choice of child care.

    1. The whole family suffers when it comes to not being able to provide high quality care and education to their children. Parents know the importance of quality care; however, the expenses forces parents to sacrifice their children's education. This problem seems obvious; however, child care funds are still being cut and the prices for childcare education remains the same. I hope one day, this issue will be addressed and taken more seriously, because with children being turned away from receiving quality care day by day, it will only develop gaps and potentially grow into even greater issues.
